Electronics and Software Industry in India

Indian Electronic and Software sector is crafting enormous opportunities in the ever expanding multilateral trading system. It is the buzzword of India's economy. Indian Electronic and Software industry has been currently growing at a fast pace and is registered a growth of 29.1% during the year 2006-07. Its production during the period 2006-07 is estimated to be INR 2,45,600 Crores, of which INR 1,53,300 Crores worth goods were exported. Electronics and Computer Software/Services sector can be broadly segmented as Computer Software and related services, ITES/BPO, Computer Hardware, Electronics Components, Electronic instruments, Consumer Electronics and Telecommunication Hardware and related services.

The Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India is the nodal department to administering electronic and software sector. FDI upto 100% is allowed in this sector, including in the services area, under the automatic route. The Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Semiconductor Integrated Circuits Layout Design Act 2000 are the main statutes governing this sector.
