Aryabhatta-DATA MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE – PATENTS

To manage its growing patent practice, CLG has developed a unique IT based solution to manage patents filed for its clients named ‘Aryabhatta’ after the ancient Indian mathematician and astronomer. This patent support system used by CLG is a real time application software customized to CLG’s requirements and the prevailing patent regimes in India and other countries where CLG undertakes patent filings and prosecution for its clients.

Aryabhatta provides ample security against pilferage of information. The data contained therein is protected through unique user names and passwords for attorneys/para legals in the firm. Each client’s databank is further secured through passwords known only to the attorney/para legal dealing with that specific client.  

Aryabhatta uses MS-SQL Database Server 2000 as its backend for storing large volume of data with good backup protection.  This keeps track of user information for every data modification and gives high protection for data by allowing limited user groups for data modification.  Some critical data can not be changed / deleted at user level, in such cases; modification is permitted only for Database Administrator. The automated Aryabhatta prompts the concerned attorneys/para legal about pending office actions repeatedly by generating reminders for the specific attorneys. In addition to that, reminders are also prompted to the Head of the patent division in CLG for necessary actions on time.

We have an in house systems administrator, Mr. Pradeep Kumar who has a diploma in Computer Engineering and an M. Sc in Information Technology. He is responsible for database management. In addition, we have an expert consultant from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

Aryabhatta is fully equipped to cater to Indian Applications; PCT-Applications as well as foreign applications. The system is automated to comprehend; calculate and analyze the patent office actions in different jurisdiction and  accordingly provide support to the Patent team at CLG. Aryabhatta generates all Forms dynamically which ensures that there are no errors in the specifications of the Form pertaining to  inventors’ names, titles and other bibliographic details.

In a nutshell, Aryabhatta provides the following features for the users at CLG:

For Indian Patents:

1. In case of provisional application due date for filing complete specification.
2. Due date for filing foreign patent applications with priority.
3. Due date for filing foreign patent applications without priority.
4. Due date for filing Form-18.
5. Based on FER, auto generation of due date for re-filing patent application with amendments.
6. Renewal due calculation for the complete life of patents.
7. Dynamic reminder entry for any specific task.

For PCT Patent Applications:

1. For non-PCT member countries, 12 months deadline for patent filing
2. For PCT member countries 20/30/31 (months)/ extended period with request  deadline for national phase entry.
3. Auto generation of publication date etc.
4. Due date for responding IPRP
5. Due for filing demand IPE
6. Due for IPE fee,. 
7. Reminder on IPEA/ IPRRP/IPER action, if any.
8. Dynamic reminder entry for any specific task. 
9. Prior permission from patent office wherever applicable

For Foreign Patents:

1. Priority date calculation.
2. Due date for filing patent applications in other countries.
3. Due dates for power of attorney, declaration and assignment execution.
4. Due date for examination proceedings.
5. Renewal due and patent term.
6. Dynamic reminder entry for any specific task.

 
Apart from the above, CLG’s patent team is presently in the process of developing patent maps for different inventions including products, formulations and compositions to be embedded to the IT system so as to provide quick analysis of the patents which CLG intends to file and also to be used in cases of infringement opinions and advices.
